Leicester Beauchamp Cannons Basketball Club are proud in
supporting the local Anti-bullying programme and were proud to
invite Trafford U16 Boys Basketball Club to take part in
promoting this statement when both teams met this week. The U16
girls squad also took part in the promotion alongside 3 players
from the Leicester Riders led by Cameron Wright.

Phil Harbour (anti-Bullying team) and Mandy Pollard from
Cannons Basketball Club are keen to use Basketball players of all ages/sexes
across the county and use Basketball as a sport to promote this through the
clubs partnerships with it’s local schools and Beauchamp College as it’s
host school. Basketball is a great team sport and offers to bring people
together to keep fit and improve their social skills within a safe and
friendly club environment, Leicester Cannons Basketball Club are proud to
promote that ethos.
Leicestershire Anti-Bullying week 2005 (21st – 25th
November) is an opportunity for schools to raise awareness in the local
community about the issue and promote anti-bullying policy and practice.
Recent research has revealed that the audiences who are
present during bullying episodes actually serve to reinforce such behaviour
– simply by watching. In addition, it has been found that 85% of bullying
episodes occur in the context of a peer group.
For such reasons, the focus of Anti-Bullying Week 2005 is
aimed at Bystander Behaviour.
Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Team believe that “Together We
Can Stop Bullying” and that changes in attitude will lead to a changes in
behaviour.
Bullying episodes will stop in less than 10 seconds nearly
60% of the time when bystanders intervene.
Bullying is not simply an issue for school’s and school
children but one which must be tackled through community wide recognition
and response.
Leicester Beauchamp Cannons Basketball Club support
Leicestershire Anti-Bullying Team and join us in saying that…
